Looking for Melbourne based fic writers...
For the Melbourne Fringe Festival this year, I want to do an event of fan fiction readings -"Fan Tales".
The aim of the evening is to provide a chance for fans who love fanfic to come together, have a few drinks, and listen to some great writing.
I need to register the event for the Festival program in May, so before I pony up the $220 registration fee, I want to know that there are people who are interested in reading at the event.
I am looking for 4-5 writers to read a story, or extract of a story, of 1000 words or less. Any fandom, any rating. Writers will get 5 minutes to introduce their fandom, and provide any story context. You can write a new story, or use an existing one.More information on the event here
- you can drop me a comment or email me at missyjack [at] livejournal.com

I'm thinking of throwing the doors open and inviting everyone round to my place to
be amazed at how slashy Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie have always been
share the wonder of Jeeves & Wooster.
I'm thinking a Saturday might be best, but if anyone has a preferred date, stop by and let me know

Melbourne Meetup Date
The date for the Melbourne Meetup will be on December 2nd, 2006. Mark your calendar, girls!! I'm currently working to get a confirmed booking on this date, so I'll send the final details later. We will now try to decide what titles we will be showing for the meetup, so if you have any ideas, please post away.
Considering how close this date is to Christmas, some of you may have some ideas of other activities we can do to celebrate, perhaps a Kris Kringle, a fundraising to donate to charities for Christmas, a Christmas special fanzine. This is your event as much as it is mine, so if you want to do something, please put in your suggestion.
Hope I'll see you for The Prestige Outing
and we can share ideas there, too. Current Mood: hopeful

Melbourne Meet--Help and Feedback Needed
Crossposted to slashers_in_aus
As I mentioned in my previous post
, I'm interested in setting up a meet. I made some enquiries and pulled some strings and finally with some help, I manage to secure a deal to hire a function room and projector to show stuffs on a big screen.
The venue will be in Northcote Town Hall
and I need help and feedback in regards to the date(s) that is most convenient for the members of this community. I'm thinking late November/early December Saturdays, 25th November, 2nd December or 16th December (9th December is booked out). I need the date set by the end of this month (October 2006) to secure the date.
I also need help and feedback on the titles we will be showing on the day and the format, and any other things we might do that weekend. The titles/episodes shown must not be (1) from the series' season currently showing in Australian TV (2) movies released on DVD region 4. The booking will be for 5 hours (6 episodes).( My thoughts on the meet...Collapse )
Please post your feedback and thoughts. Please pass the word :) any help is a life saver! *hugs* Current Mood: busy

Right, so it seems that the next Melbourne meetup will be Friday the 11th of August. We will be attending the Old Melbourne Gaol Night Performance. Tickets can be obtained HERE
. I think the show starts around 9.30 so dinner and drinks before hand looks to be on the books!
To those of you not available on the Friday but are still interested in the Saturday, I'm going to be staying in a hotel in the city for the two nights and am up for another night of frivolity and shooting pool!
If you could leave comments as to whether you'll be attending that would be good so we know what numbers we're looking at and can organise a meetup time and place to eat.

New Supernatural Fic Community
Hello again everyone!
I come with spam. But it's good spam! _seraphina_
and I are proud to announce the birth of a brand new Supernatural fic community - with a twist. It's called spn_prompts
and you can read the faq here
. Basically, it's a fic community where we'll provide three pictures a week and you provide the backstory. No word limit, no structure, you can be as detailed or basic as you please, and you can use just the one pic, or, even better, all three - totally up to you. You can also put your plot bunnies up for adoption, and see someone else develop the fic you were to lazy to write! Please check it out, me and Sera have personally tested out the concept and believe me, it's so fun.
Hope to see y'all there!

Melbourne Supernatural Meetup Update
Hello all, hope you had a wonderful weekend despite the COLD!
Right, so queeniegalore
's computer in currently possessed, the exorcism so far incomplete. Will hopefuoly be up and running in the next two days so i'm here doing the update thang on her behalf!
Meetup is definitely going ahead for the 22nd. Details still sketchy for actual time and location of First Contact and will probably reamin that way until a few days before the date. The Tour is, however, most definitely at 8.30pm at 15 McKillop St. Initially, we had thought to try and make a group booking of 10 or more people to get a discount (a whole $2 *gasp*) but this requires a deposit and a bit of screwing around. I have't got 10 definites yet so we though it would probably be easier if everyone just rings The Haunted Bookshop and book it themselves to avoid missing out. It sounds like a pretty popular affair that get pretty much booked out every saturday.
The number is 03 9670 2585, cost i $20, $18 for concession.
Sorry for the stuff around, hope you understand!
Til next time, have a good one and enjoy tomorrow's ep!!!!!
ETA: After some hasty text discussions, how does 3.30pm at the bookshop itself sound? It shuts at 4, giving us time to peruse their supernatural book collection, get in a bit of research for what we'll be dealing with on the tour (any mention of my complete and utter geekiness at this point will be ignored!!!) and also scope out where it is we have to be at 8.30pm. from there we can head off for coffee, drinks, or whatever people feel like.
